What is Microsoft Teams Together Mode? How to Enable Together mode?

Microsoft Teams Together Mode is a unique meeting view that uses artificial intelligence to digitally place participants into a shared virtual background scene. It makes online meetings feel more immersive by combining everyone together rather than having them boxed into separate video feeds. Key benefits are reducing meeting fatigue, improving nonverbal communication, and strengthening the sense of connection among remote participants. To use it, meeting organizers can activate Together Mode during a Teams meeting when there are at least 4 participants. Everyone then selects a shared background like an auditorium and sees the other members placed within it. Together Mode is currently available in the Teams desktop and web apps.

What is Microsoft Teams Together mode?

Believe it or not, but after prolonged periods of staying at homes, people have started to miss their classrooms. Everyone is craving to get together, sit in the same room, and feel the sense of belongingness. Since that won’t be possible any time soon, Microsoft Teams have come up with this innovative solution called Together mode.

It allows all the present in a meeting to get together in a virtual common space. Together mode is a filter that shows meeting attendees sitting together in a virtual auditorium. It gives people that sense of togetherness and feels close to each other. What the filter does is that it cuts out the section of your face using AI tools and creates an avatar. This avatar is now placed on a virtual background. The avatars can interact with others and perform various actions like high-fives and shoulder taps. At present, the only available location is an auditorium, like a classroom. However, Microsoft Teams plans on introducing more interesting backgrounds and features.

The main benefit of Together mode is that it eliminates background distractions and improve productivity. In a typical group video call, everyone has something going on in the background that creates a distraction. A common virtual space eliminates that significantly improves the aesthetics of the interface. It makes it easier to understand who is talking and understand their body language.
